INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana Republican Party State Chairman Kyle Hupfer officially called caucuses of eligible precinct committee members to fill the scheduled vacancy in the office of House District 63, the seat currently held by State Representative Mike Braun, and the current vacancy in House District 74, the seat most recently held by former State Representative Lloyd Arnold. The House District 63 caucus will be held at 6:00pm ET on Monday, October 30, 2017, in the Pfeffenweiler Room of Jasper’s City Hall located at 610 Main Street, Jasper, IN, 47546. The House District 74 caucus will be held at 6:00pm CT/7:00pm ET on Monday, November 6, 2017, at Perry Central High School located at 18877 Old State Road 37, Leopold, IN, 47551.
On Friday, October 20, 2017, Chairman Hupfer received official communication from Speaker Brian Bosma that State Representative Mike Braun plans to resign his seat in the Indiana House of Representatives effective November 1, 2017. The individual chosen at the October 30th caucus will fill the remainder of Representative Braun’s term. The vacancy in House District 74 came as a result of the appointment of State Representative Lloyd Arnold to the position of Director of Law Enforcement with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources and his subsequent announcement that he would resign his seat effective Sunday, October 22, 2017. The individual chosen at the November 6th caucus will likewise fill the remainder of former Representative Arnold’s term. Individuals interested in running in either caucus should contact the State Party Secretary at secretary@indiana.gop to ensure they file the proper forms prior to the deadline. Both caucuses will be open to credentialed media who pre-register. The registration deadline for the House District 63 Caucus on October 30th is 5pm ET on Friday, October 27, 2017; and the deadline for the House District 74 Caucus on November 6th is 5pm ET on Friday, November 3, 2017. A Facebook Live Stream will be available at www.facebook.com/indgop for members of the public who wish to watch the caucuses live.
