Coats on Social Security and Medicare Trustees Report: Doing Nothing Risks Everything

WASHINGTON, DC – Senator Dan Coats (R-Ind.), the Chairman of the Joint Economic Committee, said that the annual Social Security and Medicare Trustees report released today highlights the urgency to address our nation’s long-term fiscal challenges.

“This report makes clear the consequences of continued inaction on the major fiscal challenges facing our nation,” said Coats. “With the Social Security Disability Insurance trust fund set to run out of money next year, Congress must act now to preserve the Social Security and Medicare programs. If we want these benefits to exist for future generations, we cannot continue to ignore this problem. Doing nothing risks everything. ”
