Accessibility is important in Hendricks County.
All around the county, different communities have implemented various features to ensure inclusion for differently abled guests to enjoy the parks and park/playground equipment.
And now Hendricks County Parks and Recreation will be offering 2 GRIT Freedom 3.0 Mobility Wheelchairs at McCloud Nature Park and W.S Gibbs Memorial Park.
These all-terrain mobility chairs were made possible through generous support from the Gary Emsweller Parks and Trails Fund through the Parks Foundation of Hendricks County.
GRIT Freedom 3.0 Mobility Wheelchairs feature large, rugged wheels and a lever-drive system that can be powered independently by the rider or pushed with assistance from a companion, to navigate easy-to-moderate hiking trails, gravel, grass, and other uneven terrain.
With these chairs, guests who couldn’t access the trails before whether it was because of physical limitations or because it was difficult to navigate through the unpaved paths with assisted mobility aids like a walker of a wheelchair, now can reserve these chairs free of charge and enjoy the parks in a more accessible way.
These mobility wheelchairs can be reserved for two-hour use, giving more individuals the opportunity to experience the natural beauty of these Hendricks County parks. Reservations are required at least two days in advance to ensure availability at your preferred location.
