Lt. Gov. Crouch, IHCDA launch crowdfunding campaign for Plainfield “Light Up Main Street”

PLAINFIELD, Ind. (Oct. 24, 2023) – Plainfield will soon have more space to celebrate if this crowdfunding campaign reaches its goal of raising $10,000 by Nov. 24, 2023. If successful, the project led by Main Street Plainfield, Inc. will receive a matching grant as part of the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority’s (IHCDA) CreatINg Places program.

“We’re thrilled to see this vision for Plainfield coming to life,” said Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch, Indiana’s Secretary of Agriculture and Rural Development. “CreatINg Places is a wonderful program that has benefited communities across the state. The addition of light displays in the heart of the city will help Hoosiers make memories for years to come.”

Funds from this campaign will be used to transform Bicentennial Plaza into a celebration destination on Main Street by adding lighting, décor and a small outbuilding for holiday celebrations.

“Main Street Plainfield is excited to create a central event location downtown, and we believe Bicentennial Plaza is the perfect place to start,” said Anne Johansson, Executive Director of Main Street Plainfield. “We hope our event on Small Business Saturday will showcase this beautiful but underused spot on Main Street. Our goal is to light up Main Street and create a place where families can make memories that last a lifetime.”

Since the CreatINg Places program began in 2016, projects have raised more than $9.6 million in public funds and an additional $7.8 million in matching IHCDA funds. The program is available to projects located in Indiana communities. Non-profit entities (with 501c3 or 501c4 status) and local units of government are eligible to apply. Eligible projects must have a minimum total development cost of $10,000, where the recipient will receive $5,000 in IHCDA matching funds should it successfully raise $5,000 through Patronicity. IHCDA will provide matching grant funds up to $50,000 per project.
