IMPD Detectives Make an Arrest in a Crime Gun Intelligence Center Case

INDIANAPOLIS –  The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Crime Gun Intelligence Center (CGIC) along with officers from IMPD East District investigated multiple incidents of shots fired which were possibly connected to, 30-year-old Markus Spivey, who is prohibited from carrying a firearm based upon prior criminal history.

An arrest warrant for Criminal Recklessness and Pointing a Firearm was issued for Spivey in one of the shots fired cases during which Spivey is alleged to have fired shots into an occupied vehicle.

East District and CGIC officers conducted surveillance on Spivey and stopped him at 6100 N Michigan Rd on June 29, 2020. Spivey was arrested on an active warrant. During the arrest, officers located two handguns and illegal narcotics.

Markus Spivey has been charged with federal firearms violations along with state charges of Criminal Recklessness and Pointing a Firearm. Investigations into several other cases continue, including the shooting of an 11-year-old girl.

The Indianapolis Crime Gun Intelligence Center (CGIC) is an interagency collaboration focused on the timely collection and analysis of crime gun evidence to identify serial shooters and disrupt violent crime. To date, CGIC’s efforts have led to the seizure of 121 crime guns and the arrest of 122 violent individuals in 2020. CGIC is a partnership between IMPD, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Indiana, ATF, Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency, the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office, and Fishers Police Department, with Indiana University serving as a research partner.
