The Legislator of the Year Award is awarded to a Senate or House member who went above and beyond to support public safety and was the catalyst to ensuring an Indiana Sheriffs’ Association bill or position was successful during session.
Criteria for Consideration and Recognition:
The recipient of the Legislator of the Year Award must demonstrate exceptional support for public safety and have worked closely with sheriffs and the Indiana Sheriffs’ Association in securing the successful passage or defeat of a piece of legislation that was deemed vital during the current year legislative session.
Procedures for Awarding:
At the end of a legislative session, the Indiana Sheriffs’ Association Executive Director will work with the President of ISA and the Legislative Chair to determine if a member of the Indiana Legislature distinguished themselves as a Legislator of the Year. The Legislator of the Year Award does not need to be awarded on a yearly basis and is only awarded when the ISA Legislative Committee and the ISA President make the decision to bestow it upon a worthy legislator.
The Legislator of the Year Award was announced recently at the ISA’s Summer Conference in Vanderburgh County on August 7,2019 and the recipients were:
