Victim Recovered from Residential Lake in Fairland (Shelby County)

Indiana Conservation Officers are currently investigating a possible drowning that occurred in a lake located near the 4500 Block of Birch Street in Fairland, IN.

At approximately 2:45 a.m. this morning, Shelby County received a 911 call reference a possible drowning.  Multiple agencies responded to the scene and a search and dive operation was performed.

At approximately 4:00 a.m., divers with the Indiana State Police located the victim approximately 15 yards from shore.  The victim has been identified as Caleb M. Wilson-Gill, 24, of Fairland, IN.

Preliminary investigation reveals that Wilson-Gill had successfully attempted to swim across the small lake, but began to struggle on the swim back.  Wilson-Gill went under surface of the water and was not seen again.  Two subjects that were fishing with the subject called 911 and were able to give a last scene point.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine an exact cause of death.

Agencies on scene included Indiana Conservation Officers, Indiana State Police. Shelby County Sheriff’s Department, Shelbyville Fire Department and Fairland Fire Department.
