US 40 Project begins this week at the intersection with US 231

HENDRICKS AND PUTNAM COUNTIES, Ind. – The Indiana Department of Transportation announces an intersection improvement project begins this week on U.S. 40 at the intersection with U.S. 231.  Watch for lane closures in this area. The contractor will add a dedicated right turn lane for northbound U.S. 231 to eastbound U.S. 40.  The existing right and left turn lanes on U.S. 40 in both directions will be lengthened. In addition they will be widening the medians to improve the turning radius. This work is scheduled to be completed in four to six weeks, weather permitting.

This project also includes resurfacing U.S. 40 from U.S. 231 east to State Road 75. The contractor will work from Mt. Meridian back to U.S. 231 after the intersection improvement portion of the contract is completed.  The remainder of U.S. 40 will be resurfaced after the Labor Day holiday.

Wabash Valley Asphalt was awarded the $7.5 million contract.  This work is scheduled to be completed in November of this year.
