Trooper Spots Stolen Vehicle and Arrests Fleeing Suspect

Vigo County—Tuesday afternoon around 4:30, the Vermillion County Sheriff’s Office dispatched a vehicle stolen just minutes prior, from the Casey’s General Store on North 9th Street in Clinton. The owner of the vehicle was a resident of nearby Fairview, IN. 

At 4:37, Indiana State Police Trooper Ted Robertson spotted the stolen 2008 Mercury four-door southbound on State Road 63 near Hutchinson Road in northern Vigo County. Trooper Robertson attempted to stop the Mercury near SR 63 and Durkees Ferry Road, when the suspect fled westbound on Durkees Ferry to Sherburne Place and then south to Haymaker Avenue. The suspect continued west on Haymaker Avenue to north on Funkhouser Place, where he was apprehended without incident just south of US 150, approximately four miles later. 

Arrested:         Shane Michael Jenkins, age 30, of Rosedale, IN.

                        Held in Vigo County Jail 

Charges:          Auto Theft; Resisting Law Enforcement; Criminal Mischief,  Driving While Suspended; and Reckless Driving 

Trooper Robertson was assisted by ISP Troopers Jason Owen, Ty Lightle, and Chuck Murphey, Vermillion County Sheriff’s Office, and the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office.
