Indianapolis, IN – Superintendent Douglas G. Carter has announced the promotion of Trooper Karl West to Corporal to serve as a district duty officer for the Indianapolis Post. West was the successful candidate of a promotion process that includes a written test, an oral interview and a culmination of seniority, education, military experience and overall job performance.
Karl West is a native of Beech Grove Indiana and a 1991 graduate of Beech Grove High School. West has an extensive military background beginning with the United States Army from 1991 – 1997, where he served one tour of duty as a member of the Heavy Anti Armor Infantry. He was an OPFOR Team Leader in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1997 -1999 at Camp Atterbury. He Joined the Indiana National Guard in 2011 and worked in Automated Logistics until 2014. He currently serves in the Indiana Air National Guard as a Cyber Transport Specialist where he has served two tours of duty.
West was selected to attend the 71st Indiana State Police Academy in 2012 and was subsequently assigned to the Indianapolis District were he has primarily patrolled Marion County. West said, “I have enjoyed my patrol duties in the district and the relationships I’ve built with my shift partners. I look forward to the new challenges this promotion will afford me.”
Corporal West currently resides in Marion County with his three children.
