PUTNAM COUNTY, Ind. – The Indiana Department of Transportation announces traffic on U.S. 231 under I-70 will be down to one 14’ lane in each direction beginning Monday, August 10, weather permitting. This is scheduled to last through November 20.
There will also be overnight closures on U.S. 231 in both directions beginning Friday, August 14 at 9 p.m. through 6 a.m. the following morning. These overnight closures will occur for eight consecutive nights to allow for bridge demolition work. All ramps at the interchange for Exit 41 will remain open.
The U.S. 231 southbound detour will follow I-70 westbound to S.R. 243 southbound to I-70 eastbound. The detour for U.S. 231 northbound will be I-70 eastbound to Little Point Road northbound to I-70 westbound.
This project was awarded to Force Construction Co. for $6.6 million. The I-70 Bridges over U.S. 231 at Exit 41 will be rebuilt. Construction is expected to be completed by late fall of next year.
INDOT encourages drivers to slow down, exercise caution and drive distraction-free through all work zones.
