State Police Investigating Overnight Shooting on I-65

Indianapolis, IN – Just after midnight police were called to the area of I-65 and Southport Road for reports of a possible shooting. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police were the first on scene and turned the investigation over to state police after determining the crime occurred on the ramp from I-65 southbound to Southport Road.

Preliminary investigation has revealed there were two victims in two separate vehicles, they each suffered a non-life threatening gunshot wound. One victim was the 16 year old driver of a black Chevrolet Impala, a passenger in that vehicle was not injured. The second victim was a 15 year old male, he was the driver and sole occupant of a red Chevrolet Malibu. Both victims were transported to Eskenazi Hospital.

Investigators believe the shots were fired from a black or dark colored car, possibly a Nissan with a large rust spot on the back. The vehicle fled the scene westbound on Southport Road.

This investigation is ongoing.
