Shelby Co.,-Early this morning on July 21st, Indiana State Police officers arrested a Shelbyville man at his residence for child exploitation.
An Investigation that began March of this year by Indiana State Police Sergeant Matt Simmons of the Cyber Crime Unit, yielded information that directed him to obtain a search warrant for the residence of Michael D. Sermersheim, 68, 522 3rd St, Shelbyville.
Sergeant Simmons, along with other members of the ISP ICAC task force, ISP Versailles Post Field Investigations, ISP Indianapolis Post Enforcement, and ISP Cyber Crime Unit executed a search warrant at the residence early this morning and allegedly found evidence to indicate that Sermersheim had been utilizing peer-to-peer networks to download and disseminate child pornography. Other digital media items were examined and allegedly found to contain files of child pornography. Sermersheim was taken into custody and preliminarily arrested for Child Exploitation, Level 5 Felony, and Possession of Child Pornography. Sermersheim was incarcerated in the Shelby County Jail without bond. The investigation is continuing.
