Scarecrows Frame Courthouse Square During Month of October

DANVILLE, IN (September 16, 2015) –With that crisp chill in the air, and the changing color of the leaves around town, it’s time for one of the most exciting Downtown Danville traditions—the Scarecrows are coming!

“The annual Scarecrow display traditionally brings in visitors from all over the state to visit our little town,” said Sally Steward. President of the Downtown Danville Partnership. “People from far and wide come to walk around the square, picking out their favorite scarecrows then staying for a while to enjoy the quaint shops and restaurants that Danville has to offer.  It’s a great time of year to show off Downtown Danville and welcome our guests.”

Scarecrows created by families, businesses and community groups will sprout up around the courthouse square on the morning of October 3. Each one will be judged by a panel and winners will be selected for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in two categories. In addition, the public gets to weigh in on their favorites by voting for the People’s Choice Award. Until October 23rd, visitors to the Courthouse Square will be able to cast their coin vote to select the “People’s Choice” winner to be announced on October 24th. All money raised from this voting is donated to a local food pantry.

Anyone can participate in the scarecrow display.  The Scarecrow Entry Form can be found at www.visitdowntowndanville.com by clicking on the “Events” tab at the top of the page then scrolling to “Featured Events” where you will find SCARECROW DISPLAY. Advance entry is preferred, but walk-ups will also be accepted on the morning of installation.

The Downtown Danville Partnership works to develop, promote and sustain Danville’s historic courthouse square as “Hendricks County’s downtown,” the county’s gathering place and its retail, civic, entertainment and government center. The Partnership works to make downtown enhancements a priority for the community, harnessing the strengths and talents of relevant organizations and individuals and promoting collaboration and enthusiasm among all sectors who work on and in downtown.
