Meyer, a Mooresville High School graduate, is the son of Mike and Carrie Meyer. He is attending Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis where he is majoring in political science and communications.

“Being a legislative intern has helped me figure out my career path and inspired me as I look to the future,” Meyer said. “I have learned so much from the legislators and I’m genuinely fascinated by the legislative process.”

Reyes, a graduate of Avon High School, is the daughter of Isai and Marlene Reyes. She is a student at IUPUI and majoring in criminal justice.

“Working for the House of Representatives has been an experience unlike anything I have done before,” Reyes said. “The people I have met and the knowledge I have gained is invaluable.”

As legislative interns, Meyer and Reyes correspond with constituents through phone calls, letters and emails, while also staffing committee hearings and floor proceedings.

“Avery and Vanesa are learning a lot and developing skills that will serve them well as they launch their careers,” Steuerwald said. “They are managing important responsibilities and doing a very good job. Our community should be proud of these two students and of how hard they are working.”

Each year, the House of Representatives offers paid internship opportunities to college students, law school students, graduate students and recent college graduates for the duration of the legislative session.
