Pedestrian killed in a hit and run at West 86th Street and Township Line Road

INDIANAPOLIS– Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department’s (IMPD) Hit and Run investigators are seeking vehicles involved in a fatal hit and run accident on the north side of Indianapolis.

Officers were dispatched to the intersection of West 86th Street and Township Line Road on the report of a person struck. The victim, 24-year-old Shana Elliott, was walking southbound on Township Line Road.  She attempted to cross the street when she was struck by a  minivan traveling west on 86th Street. The driver of the minivan immediately stopped the vehicle, called 911 and remained at the accident scene to speak with investigators.  After Shana Elliott was hit by the minivan, she was struck by at least one other vehicle traveling eastbound on 86th Street, but may have been struck by two vehicles.  The second striking vehicle(s) fled the scene without the driver(s) stopping to provide information or aid.  Shana Elliott was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Witnesses described one of the fleeing vehicles as an older brown work van, with a ladder on the back.  After the crash, the driver of the suspect vehicle fled north on Township Line Road.

Anyone with any information is encouraged to contact the IMPD Crash Investigations Section at (317) 327-6549 or Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 262-TIPS (8477).
