Marion County – Around 11:30 a.m. Monday morning troopers from the Indianapolis State Police Post and area emergency personnel responded to a two vehicle crash on I-65 near the 110 mile marker.
Troopers arrived to find a Hyundai SUV and Honda motorcycle scattered across the north bound lanes of the interstate.
The driver of the Hyundai, 43-year-old Carry Michaels was not injured in the crash and her vehicle received minor damage. The driver of the Honda motorcycle, 42-year-old Scott Thipps of Indianapolis, was seriously injured and transported to Methodist Hospital. Thipps was not wearing a helmet.
According to witness accounts Thipps was purportedly driving at a high rate of speed and cutting in and out of traffic just prior to the crash. The right side of Thipps’ motorcycle stuck the driver’s side of Michaels’ SUV causing him the loose control.
The crash restricted north bound I-65 traffic to one lane for approximately two hours. The accident remains under investigation at this time. Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor.
