Man arrested in Parke County for Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer

Indiana Conservation Officers arrested Kevin S. Kent, 34, of Indianapolis Sunday, May 26, 2019 on charges of Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer, Intimidation of a Law Enforcement Officer and Failure to Identify. Indiana Conservation Officer Nathan Lutz took Mr. Kent into custody and was later assisted by an additional Indiana Conservation Officer and three Parke County Deputies. Mr. Kent was taken to the Park County Jail and held with no bond.

ICO Lutz had observed Mr. Kent fishing in Raccoon Creek below the Dam of Cecil M. Harden Lake on U.S. Army Corp of Engineers property. Mr. Kent refused to identify himself and became angry and threatened violence. Mr. Kent was also cited for two infractions of Failure to Procure a Fishing License and Driving While Suspended.

During the encounter, Mr. Kent made numerous verbal threats to ICO Lutz and attempted to batter him after being handcuffed. Mr. Kent also spat on ICO Lutz multiple times as he was physically resisting his arrest. He stated to ICO Lutz, “I shot a police officer before and would do it again.”

Kent had three prior convictions of Battery with Bodily Injury, one prior conviction for Attempted Murder, one prior conviction for Attempted Battery with a Deadly Weapon, one prior conviction for Resisting Arrest as well as other criminal convictions.

All charges are merely accusations and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
