Knife-wielding man subdued, arrested after foot pursuit in Monroe County

Indiana Conservation Officers arrested a male and female yesterday on multiple charges in Monroe County. Jacob Ferguson (20), Indianapolis, was arrested for Resisting Law Enforcement, Possession of Methamphetamine, and Battery on a Police Officer, while Kyla Terrell (25), Ellettsville, was arrested on charges of Possession of Methamphetamine and Marijuana.

Just before 3:30 p.m. yesterday, Indiana Conservation Officer Kurt Kinser responded to a suspicious-person call on Mission Valley Lane outside of Bloomington. Kinser encountered Ferguson who was armed with a large knife, and aggressively approaching him.

Shortly afterward, Terrell exited the woods, also armed with a large knife.  After both subjects dropped the knives, Kinser observed suspected methamphetamine and began to place Ferguson into custody.  Ferguson attempted to strike Officer Kinser and fled on foot.

Officer Kinser gave chase, deployed a Taser, and was able to effectively subdue Ferguson.  Further investigation revealed additional suspected methamphetamine concealed on Terrell, and she was also taken into custody.

Multiple agencies responded, including the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department, Bloomington Police Department, Indiana Conservation Officers, and Indiana State Police.

All charges are merely accusations and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
