Juvenile injured in Tipton ORV accident

Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating an off-road vehicle (ORV) accident in which a 13-year-old female juvenile was injured.

Yesterday at approximately 5:21 p.m., officers were notified of an ORV accident with injuries that had just occurred near 25 East County Road 350 South in Tipton.

Initial investigation revealed that the female juvenile was operating the ORV on the roadway with a 14-year-old juvenile as a passenger. The operator inadvertently accelerated while turning, causing the ORV to roll over.

The juvenile operator sustained a serious head injury and was transported to IU Health-Tipton Hospital and then to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis.

The operator and passenger were not wearing helmets or protective gear. Indiana law requires anyone under age 18 that is operator or passenger on an ORV to wear a helmet. The investigation is ongoing.

Indian Conservation Officers were assisted in the investigation by the Tipton County Sheriff’s Department.
