IU West Announces “It’s a Girl!” as first baby is born in 2018!

AVON, Ind. – Long after the ball dropped in Times Square, IU Health West Hospital welcomed its first baby of 2018. Labor and delivery caregivers delivered this first bundle of joy—a baby girl—at 11:06 pm on January 1.

BreAnna Strickland and Dee Smith of Indianapolis met their child, D’mazzi Dior Smith, after nearly nine hours of labor. The baby girl weighed 5 pounds, 13 ounces and measured 19 inches in length.

To celebrate baby D’mazzi’s arrival, the parents were presented with a Baby New Year “Welcome Basket” from IU Health West, including a safe sleep sack, spa kit, elephant bath towel, bath toys, baby book, stuffed animal rattle, spoon, baby’s first year belly stickers and treats for mom and dad. IU Health West Hospital’s entire team of caregivers congratulates the family on the birth of their third baby.
