ISP Investigates Friday Shooting at Rural Putnam County Home

Putnam County—This afternoon at 4:00, the Indiana State Police Putnamville Post received a call from a female at 7645 South State Road 243, Cloverdale, reporting two men were attempting to take items from the yard area. A trooper was dispatched to the home and arrived at approximately 4:09p.m. After arriving, the trooper immediately discovered a wounded male in a 2002 Chevrolet pickup that appeared to have sustained a small caliber gunshot wound to the head. The victim was stabilized by Putnam County Operation Life paramedics, transported to the area of SR 243 and I-70, and airlifted to St. Vincent’s Hospital in Indianapolis with a life-threatening injury.

The victim was Jeffrey Dewayne Perkins, age 59, of rural Greencastle, IN.

Indiana State Police detectives have processed the scene and conducted many interviews related to this event. ISP detectives have knowledge of all persons involved in this case and there is no danger to the public. No other names or information will be released at this time.

The investigation is ongoing and once completed, all reports will be submitted to the Putnam County Prosecutor’s Office for review of any potential charges. The ISP report is expected to be completed in seven to ten days.

The lead investigator is ISP Detective Don Anglin. Assisting were ISP Detectives F/Sergeant Jason Fajt and Michael Featherling, ISP Crime Scene Investigator Sergeant Jim Cody, ISP Sergeant Cory Robinson and Troopers James Crisp and David Cox Jr., Putnam County Prosecutor Tim Bookwalter, Putnam County Operation Life, and Stat Flight air medivac.
