INDIANAPOLIS (May 16, 2019) – The Indiana Department of Child Services announces Kimberly Spindler as its new assistant general counsel for the central region.
Spindler of Indianapolis has worked in the legal profession for 16 years, most recently as a family court mediator for the Marion County Superior Court. In her new role, Spindler will develop the DCS litigation division to ensure attorneys and regional chief counsels effectively represent the agency and children it serves in court hearings.
Spindler brings 13 years’ DCS experience to her post as well, having served in the agency’s legal division previously.
“When I learned about this position, I felt it was the right time to return to DCS,” she said. “I was impressed with Director Stigdon’s leadership, and I wanted to be part of moving the DCS legal division forward.”
Spindler will mentor legal staff working in central Indiana DCS offices, focusing on trial preparation, problematic cases and administrative hearings. DCS deputy general counsel James Luttrull is confident Spindler’s past work with the agency will help her connect with staff.
“I know Kim will do an incredible job leading and advising both the new and seasoned attorneys,” Luttrull said. “She has been in their shoes and knows how demanding the work can be.”
Spindler, who has also been a family case manager, is a graduate of Indiana University and the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law.
