INDIANAPOLIS – Detectives with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Sex Crimes Unit have arrested 29-year-old Demario Thomas for an illegal sexual relationship with a 15-year-old minor.
It is alleged that the victim and suspect became involved in an illegal sexual relationship at the end of May or beginning of June of 2016. The suspect worked as a teaching assistant at a local middle school where he first met the victim, although no allegations of misconduct occurred during the suspect’s employment with the school. In April 2016, the suspect resigned from the school and subsequently became sexually involved with the victim. The sexual misconduct allegation was brought to the attention of police by a concerned family member.
At 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 25, 2016, detectives interviewed the suspect, and in a statement admitted that he was aware of the victim’s age at the time of the sexual misconduct. Following this admission and after questioning concluded, the suspect was arrested on a preliminary felony charge of Sexual Misconduct with a Minor, and he was transported to the Arrestee Processing Center for processing.
This case is yet to be reviewed by the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office thus the suspect’s charge is preliminary until the Prosecutor’s Office renders a charging decision.
