IMPD officers respond to Fatal Tuesday Accident on Indianapolis’ South side

INDIANAPOLIS – Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) officers responded to an accident with entrapment, where one of the drivers had been killed as a result.

Just after 7a.m., IMPD officers were dispatched to the 8000 block of Madison Ave, located near Stop 11, in reference to a personal injury accident. Upon arrival, officers saw two SUVs had been involved in a head on collision in the Southbound lanes of Madison Ave. A blue SUV had been driving Southbound on Madison Ave and a green SUV had been Northbound. The green SUV crossed the center line and ran head on into the blue SUV.

Indianapolis Fire Department (IFD) personnel responded to extract both drivers. EMS Personnel arrived and pronounced the driver of the blue SUV, who was an elderly male, dead on scene. The driver of the green SUV, who was a younger female, was transported to Methodist Hospital in serious condition.

IMPD accident investigators responded to the scene for interviews and scene processing. The cause of the accident is still under investigation, however investigators do not believe intoxication to have been a factor. A blood draw will be taken from the driver of the green SUV, as is standard procedure for any accident resulting in a fatality.
