IMPD Homicide Detectives Make Arrest in Thursday Homicide

INDIANAPOLIS-Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) arrested 57-year old Leon Brewer for his alleged involvement in an overnight shooting.

On Thursday, January 27, 2022, just before 11:30 p.m., IMPD Southwest District officers were dispatched to 239 Bertha Court, reference a person shot. Officers arrived and located an adult male who sustained injuries consistent with a gunshot wound(s). Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services (IEMS) arrived, and unfortunately the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.  

IMPD Homicide Detectives responded to the scene to begin their investigation. The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency responded to assist in identifying and collecting potential forensic evidence.  The Marion County Coroner’s Office (MCCO) will be assisting and will determine the exact manner and cause of death. The MCCO will release the name of the decedent once proper next-of-kin notification has been made.

Detectives detained Leon Brewer and he was taken to the IMPD Homicide office for additional questioning.  After further investigation, Leon Brewer was arrested for murder. The Marion County Prosecutors Office will review the case and make a final charging decision.
