IMPD Homicide Detectives Make Arrest in Overnight Homicide

INDIANAPOLIS-Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) arrested 41-year old Darius Butts for his alleged involvement in an overnight shooting.
 
On Thursday, June 9, 2022, just before 11:00 p.m., IMPD East District officers were dispatched to the 9900 block of E. 38th Street, reference a person shot. Officers arrived and located an adult male who sustained injuries consistent with a gunshot wound(s). Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services (IEMS) arrived, and unfortunately the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.  
 
IMPD Homicide Detectives responded to the scene to begin their investigation. The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency responded to assist in identifying and collecting potential forensic evidence.  The Marion County Coroner’s Office (MCCO) will be assisting and will determine the exact manner and cause of death. The MCCO will release the name of the decedent once proper next-of-kin notification has been made.
 
Subsequently, homicide detectives detained Darius Butts at the scene. After further investigation, Darius Butts was arrested for murder. The Marion County Prosecutors Office will review the case and make a final charging decision.
