IMPD Homicide Detectives make arrest in murder on Dawn Drive

Geovany Diaz

INDIANAPOLIS – Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Homicide detectives have identified and arrested Geovany Diaz (21) for his role in the shooting death of Jesse Harris (27) and shooting of Dejon Wooden (20) that occurred on 11/30/2018.

Just before 1:30 p.m. on 11/30/2018, officers with the IMPD were dispatched to a local area hospital where two people who had been shot had shown up. One of the victims, later identified as Jesse Harris, succumbed to his injuries despite the best efforts of medical staff.  The 2nd victim, later identified as Dejon Wooden, was listed in good condition. Officers were also dispatched on an additional person shot, walk-in at another local area hospital that was found to be related. That person was identified as Geovany Diaz.

Homicide detectives responded and immediately began canvassing the area for witnesses. During the course of their investigation, they developed probable cause for arrest on suspicion of murder, for Diaz who had shown up at another hospital suffering from a gunshot wound. Diaz was preliminarily charged with murder and two counts of robbery.

Anyone with information about this incident should call the IMPD Homicide Office at 317.327.3475 or Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317.262.8477 or (TIPS).  Citizens can also download the mobile P3tips app for Apple or Android phones to submit a mobile tip, or go to www.CrimeTips.org to submit a web tip.
