IMPD Homicide Detectives Arrest Man in Connection With Recent Downtown Homicide

On May 31, 2020, just before 2:30 a.m., IMPD officers were dispatched to the area of Market and Pennsylvania Streets in response to a person being shot at that location. When officers arrived, they located an adult male suffering from apparent gunshot wound(s). The victim was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Homicide detectives responded and immediately began canvassing the area for witnesses. The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency responded to assist in identifying and collecting potential forensic evidence. The Marion County Coroner’s Office assisted and determined the exact manner and cause of death.

Tyler Newby

On May 31, 2020 homicide detectives working in partnership with the Marion County Prosecutors office ascertained a warrant and arrested 29-year-old Tyler Newby for his alleged involvement in the death of 18-year-old Dorian Murrell.

A charge of a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
