IMPD Detectives Make Arrest in Shooting of 5-Year-Old

INDIANAPOLIS –  On Monday, April 13, 2021, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Aggravated Assault detectives identified and arrested a suspect allegedly involved in the shooting of a 5-year-old over the weekend.

On Saturday, April 10, 2021, just before 6:30 p.m., Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) officers were dispatched to a report of a person shot at Skateland located at 3902 N. Glen Arm Road. Upon arrival, officers located a 5-year-old with an apparent gunshot wound.  Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services arrived and transported the victim to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  Aggravated assault detectives responded and began their investigation.

Aggravated assault detectives continued their investigation and were able to identify the alleged suspect. On April 13, 2021, aggravated assault detectives announced the arrest of 21-year-old Chantera Moore for her alleged involvement in the shooting.  Chantera Moore was arrested and charged with aggravated battery, criminal recklessness, and carrying a handgun without a license. The Marion County Prosecutors Office (MCPO) will review the case and determine a final charging decision.

Members of the community were essential to identifying the alleged suspect and being able to make an arrest.  This highlights the importance of police-community relationships.
