INDIANAPOLIS – On March 8, 2019, Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD), Indianapolis Fire Department (IFD) and Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services were dispatched to 7409 Rockleigh Avenue on an adult male with chest pains. As IFD and IEMS were leaving, the man ran out of the house stating his baby wasn’t breathing. Medics located an unresponsive child inside the residence.
The 17-month-old child was transported to Clarion Hospital West in Avon and later life lined to Riley Hospital in critical condition.
Child Abuse detectives responded to the hospital and began speaking with potential witnesses. The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency responded to the scene to assist with identifying and collecting potential forensic evidence.
On March 9, 2019 The child died at the hospital from injuries sustained while in the care of Terrence Porter. The Marion County Coroner’s Office(MCCO) assisted in determining the exact manner and cause of death of the victim. The MCCO will release the name of the victim once proper next-of-kin notification has been made.
Detectives arrested 24-year-old Terrence Porter for his involvement in the death of the 17-month-old child. Terrence Porter was arrested and charged with murder, neglect of a dependent causing death and battery.
