The Indiana Supreme Court is convening teams from each county to attend the Statewide Opioid Summit: A Medication Assisted Treatment and Addictions Primer for Justice Professionals. The event is part of the judicial branch’s pledge to help fight the public health crisis. County teams will include judges, prosecutors, public defenders, chief probation officers, law enforcement, Department of Child Services, community leaders, and medical professionals.
The Summit will take place on July 25 from 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. EDT at the Indiana Convention Center in downtown Indianapolis. Sessions will focus on the science of addiction and evidence-based treatments for substance use disorders, along with tools for the community. A draft agenda for the day is available online.
The addictions epidemic impacts every county in Indiana, making it imperative for community leaders to work together to address the issue. Media are welcome to attend the event and must register by July 16 at noon. Media may also consider contacting their local county officials who may be attending the Summit. A team from each of Indiana’s 92 counties is registered to attend.
The Summit is sponsored by the Indiana Supreme Court, Indiana Family and Social Services Administration, Indiana University Addictions Grand Challenge, and the Association of Indiana Counties. More information about the Statewide Opioid Summit can be found online.
