STATEHOUSE (Oct. 10, 2025) – Indiana House Republicans are seeking student interns for the 2026 legislative session, according to Hendricks County legislators.
These paid, full-time internships are open to college students, recent graduates and students in graduate and law school. State Rep. Greg Steuerwald (R-Avon) said the internship is an opportunity to gain practical knowledge of state government through active participation in the legislative process.
“There have been many elected officials and government leaders who got their start serving as legislative interns,” Steuerwald said. “It’s always special to meet a new group of students every session who are striving to establish themselves as the next generation of leaders.”
State Rep. Jeff Thompson (R-Lizton) said interns will work in the Statehouse in downtown Indianapolis full time Monday through Friday during the legislative session, which starts in January and concludes in March.
“Having professional experience through opportunities like internships is crucial for students when seeking employment after graduating,” Thompson said. “This program is a great resume booster and a way to network with lawmakers and industry leaders from across the state.”
Positions are available in legislative operations, policy and communications.
State Rep. Craig Haggard (R-Mooresville) said interns will be paired with a staff member to work directly with an assigned group of state representatives. During this spring semester internship, students will have opportunities to interact with state legislators, state agencies and private sector organizations, as well as participate in a weekly speaker series featuring Indiana civic leaders.
“Interns are a crucial part of the legislative team,” Haggard said. “They’ll get to work alongside lawmakers and staff and see firsthand how ideas are turned into action.”
“Work-based learning can be a cornerstone in young Hoosiers’ education,” said State Rep. Becky Cash (R-Zionsville). “By interning at the Statehouse, students get a hands-on learning experience that can make all the difference on a resume and in their future career.”
Applications are available online at indianahouserepublicans.com/internship and are due by Oct. 31.
