Avon, IN- Hendricks County Community Foundation Grants Meals on Wheels of Hendricks County $510 for client coolers. The mission of Meals on Wheels of Hendricks County is to help alleviate hunger within the community. The program serves a variety of people including seniors, the disabled and those who are homebound. Meals on Wheels serves those that cannot cook for themselves no matter the reason.
The Hendricks County Community Foundation awarded Meals on Wheels of Hendricks County a grant from an anonymous fund for $510 to purchase client coolers. The grant funded fifty soft sided coolers for client’s meals for when the clients are not available to personally answer the door. The clients find comfort in knowing when they return home from an appointment that a nutritious meal will be waiting for them in their cooler.
“Though Meals on Wheels budgets for the meal themselves, we are fortunate to have the Hendricks County Community Foundation grant opportunities to help provide the “extras” for our recipients, many of whom do not have or cannot afford a cooler in which to leave the meal.” said Jane Randall, Meals on Wheels of Hendricks County Board of Directors President.
Meals on Wheels of Hendricks County gives many seniors the opportunity to stay in their homes and “age in place.” In 2014 Meals on Wheels of Hendricks County delivered over 22,000 hot meals to residents throughout Hendricks County.
