Final lane changes begin on College Ave and Meridian Street for IndyGo’s Red Line

INDIANAPOLIS (July 12, 2019) – Beginning on or after Saturday, July 13, drivers will notice final lane configurations in place on College Avenue and Meridian Street to make way for the Red Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT). Construction crews will complete new pavement markings and install the mountable median in the roadway.

In addition, drivers should heed left-turn restrictions in this portion of the Red Line corridor, as they go into effect at intersections that do not have traffic signals. Left turn restrictions will begin as the median is installed. Left turns from College Avenue and Meridian Street will only be allowed at intersections with traffic signals.

Crews will work from north to south to install the new median on College Avenue and will move to Meridian Street as repaving is complete.

IndyGo has created several public education videos to assist transit users, pedestrians and drivers visualize the new lanes, stations and pavement markings. The videos are available online at IndyGoRed.com and will be shared through social media, newsletters, and online advertisements. The full list includes:

IndyGo encourages drivers, pedestrians and bicyclists to watch the video animations as they are geared to allow them to visualize what they will see when the Red Line opens September 1.

“Knowing what to expect before opening day is our priority, and we know changes to the roadway impact many,” said Justin Stuehrenberg, VP Planning and Capital Projects. “These videos accurately show the lane markings, station locations and turning movements that drivers will need to learn.”

The Red Line will run 13 miles through Indianapolis and open for service on Sunday, September 1. The entire IndyGo system, including the Red Line, will be free to ride the entire month of September.
