Early Morning Fatal Crash on I-65 in Greenwood

Greenwood, IN – Wednesday morning at approximately 7:35 a.m. emergency crews were called to the scene of a serious crash on I-65 northbound at the 99 mile marker. First responders arrived on scene and despite life saving efforts the driver of the passenger car was pronounced deceased on scene.

Investigators believe a semi tractor-trailer was stopped in the northbound lanes due to a lengthy traffic back-up. A 2015 Chevrolet passenger car struck the rear end of the semi’s trailer at a high rate of speed. The force of the impact caused the car to go underneath the back of the trailer. The driver of the semi, Robert Coleman of Pennsylvania was not injured.

The driver of the passenger car has been identified and the next of kin has been notofied, however we are not releasing the name at this time to give family members an opportunity to notify extended family.

The crash scene was cleared just after 10:00 a.m. The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
