Driver Advises ISP Dispatch She Needs to Pull over for She Has Been Drinking

Tippecanoe County-Saturday morning around 5:12 A.M on I-65 northbound near the 178 exit (that is in Tippecanoe County the SR 43 exit), a female driver call Region 1 Dispatch at Lowell to advise them she had been drinking and needs to pull over.  Dispatch advised Trooper Daniel Organ who was in the area to attempt to locate the vehicle.

Trooper Organ saw the vehicle exit off of I-65 at the 178 ramp where he witnessed several traffic violations.  The vehicle went north on SR 43 and traveled in the southbound lanes before he could stop the black 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt.  Trooper Organ proceeded to talk to the driver when she just rolled up the window and took off.  The Cobalt headed northbound reaching speeds of about 65 miles per hour with Trooper Organ behind her with his emergency light and siren activated.

Region 1 Radio called the driver, later identified as Eboni J. Johnson, 23 of Chicago, IL and asked her to pull over.  After running off the road several times she complied with the request and was taken into custody and will be charged with Resisting Law Enforcement, Reckless Driving, Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated (Two Counts) and Possession of Controlled Substance.  She was transported to Franciscan Health Lafayette for medical treatment.  The investigation is continuing.

Assisting at the scene was Trooper Jared McQueary and Joey’s Wrecker Service.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
