Plainfield, IN – A two vehicle crash claimed two lives this afternoon. Just after 2:15 p.m. emergency crews were called to the eastbound lanes of I-70 near the exit for SR 267 for a serious crash. Upon arrival, first responders found a heavily damaged full size van with two occupants had crashed into the rear end of a semi-tractor trailer. Both occupants of the van were pronounced deceased at the scene, the driver of the semi was not injured.
Preliminary investigation has led officers to believe east bound traffic on I-70 was backed up due to road repairs in the area. The semi-tractor trailer was stopped at the back of the line of traffic when the van failed to stop before colliding with the back of the trailer. All lanes of I-70 east bound were closed at SR 267 for approximately three hours while the crash was investigated and the wreckage was removed.
The Indiana State Police was assisted in this investigation by the Plainfield Police Department, the Plainfield Fire Department, and the Hendricks County Coroner’s Office.
