Bridgework to close Allisonville Road at I-465 next week

Several days of dry weather are needed

INDIANAPOLIS (June 23, 2022) –With Clear Path 465 construction ramping up, motorists should prepare for significant traffic changes in the Castleton area over the next two weeks, including the first of three long-term ramp closures.

Allisonville Road short-term closure

Allisonville Road is expected to close for bridge resurfacing between the I-465 ramps from 9 p.m. Sunday, June 26, to 6 a.m. Friday, July 1. Several days of dry weather are needed to complete the work. Rain could postpone the work to July.

Throughout the work, the I-465 westbound ramps will remain open for Allisonville Road north of the bridge, and the I-465 eastbound ramps will remain open for traffic south of the bridge. Drivers should stay alert and expect delays for construction traffic.

The detour for local car and truck traffic will follow 86th Street, Center Run Drive and 82nd Street. Traffic shifts will allow the Allisonville Road bike path to remain open through the work zone and across the bridge.

The maintenance work, known as a bridge deck overlay, will protect the driving surface from water and road salt to minimize potholes and the need for future repairs.

Northbound Binford Blvd. on-ramp long-term closure

A multi-year closure of the northbound Binford Boulevard ramp to westbound I-465 is expected to begin within the next two weeks. It is the first long-term ramp closure needed to keep interstate traffic flowing during Clear Path 465 construction. The closure also allows for the completion of temporary ramps nearby at the I-69 and I-465 interchange.

The ramp closure is scheduled to begin on or after Tuesday, July 5. If weather postpones the Allisonville Road closure, the Binford Boulevard on-ramp closure could be moved to next week.

Handsfree use of mobile mapping apps with real-time traffic is encouraged for alternative routes.

Weekend I-465 restrictions

Expect westbound I-465 traffic to be reduced to one lane from 82nd Street to the White River starting after 9 p.m. on Friday, June 24. Road crews are repaving the shoulders for an upcoming traffic shift and will move to the eastbound I-465 lanes as time allows this weekend.

Three additional weekends of I-465 lane closures for shoulder paving are scheduled to resume in July, and the work will require short-term ramp closures.
