Automatic Signal Violation Results in Vigo County Crash

Vigo County—Tuesday morning at 10:55, Indiana State Police Master Trooper Chip McKee drove upon a two-vehicle crash in the northbound lanes of US 41 (3rd Street) at Hulman Street.

Preliminary investigation revealed a black 1998 Dodge pickup, driven by 44-year-old Michelle Heidelberg-Bauer of Shelburn, IN., was southbound on US 41 and attempting a left turn to proceed east onto Hulman Street. While attempting to complete her turn, a blue 2015 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by 69-year-old Marita Shelton of Palestine, Illinois, reportedly failed to stop for a red light for northbound US 41 at Hulman Street. The two vehicles then collided.

Ms. Shelton was transported to Union Hospital Terre Haute for complaint of pain. Shelton was cited for disregarding an automatic signal.

 No other injuries were reported.

The crash was investigated by ISP Master Trooper Chip McKee. Assisting were ISP Sergeant Joe Watts, Terre Haute Police Department, erre Haute Fire Department, Gill’s Towing and Edington Wrecker Service..

Under the Law, criminal charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
