Applications now being accepted for Town of Brownsburg Resident Academy

BROWNSBURG – Brownsburg residents who are interested in learning more about how their local government operates can now apply to participate in the Town’s Resident Academy. The six-session program is a mix of instruction and hands-on interaction designed to help residents better understand municipal operations and how services are delivered.

The Resident Academy will meet at 6 p.m. on Monday evenings beginning January 30. Sessions will be held in various Town facilities, allowing for tours and an up-close view of day-to-day responsibilities and operations. Through the sessions with town departments, participants will learn about the budget process and its limitations and how their tax dollars are used to deliver municipal services and programs.

February 6: Development Services at Town Hall

March 6: Public Safety at the Police Department Training Facility
• Neighborhood Watch
• Self-Defense and Home Protection
• Parental Rights
• Equipment Demonstration
• Fire Department Presentation

March 20: Brownsburg Parks at Parks Offices
• Park Board
• Facility/Park Overview
• Programs
• Future Recreation Center Discussion

April 3: Public Works (Part 1) at Wastewater Plant Bldg. G
• Wastewater Plant Tour
• Stormwater Management
• System Operation and Maintenance
• Fleet Maintenance

April 17: Public Works (Part 2) at Street Dept. and Water Plant at Arbuckle Acres
• Street Maintenance

The Resident Academy is a free program intended for Town of Brownsburg residents 18 years and older. Class size will be limited to 30. Interested residents may apply until December 30, or until the class is full, whichever is first.  Applications are accepted on a first come, first served basis.  Applicants will be notified by January 10, 2017 of their acceptance into the program.  APPLICATION>>
