Tippecanoe County Traffic Stop Nets Two in Jail

ISP SmallTippecanoe County-Today at approximately 6:24 a.m. on I-65 southbound near the 168 mile marker (that is the SR 38 exit), a trooper stops a vehicle for speeding and discovers two handguns and the driver wanted on a warrant.

Trooper Tyler Stinson was in full uniform driving his unmarked white Ford F-150 pickup patrolling the construction zone when he was passed by a black 2005 Chevrolet Equinox allegedly doing 84 miles an hour in a 55 mile per hour construction speed zone.  As he approached the car, he notice the driver attempting to hide a handgun between the seats.  The driver, Antonio Davis Jr, 25 of Indianapolis was placed into custody after failing to have a valid handgun permit.  Davis was checked through state police radio and was found to have a valid warrant for failure to appear for Driving While suspended/Prior out of Marion County.

The passenger, Shanda T. Davis, 27 was also taken into custody for Resisting Law Enforcement.  Both were transported to Tippecanoe County Jail.  Antonio was also charged with the original stop for speeding and for Driving While Suspended/Prior.

While inventorying the vehicle that had an expired plate, a second gun was found underneath the driver’s seat.  Assisting at the scene were Troopers Ben Rector and David Millburg.  The vehicle was towed by Joey’s Wrecker Service.
