Planners charged with coming up with a development strategy for the Ind. 39 corridor between U.S. 40 and I-70 have wrapped up work, and the project steering committee meets in a workshop with the Hendricks County Area Plan Commission to review it July 12.
The discussion and review meeting at the county government center in Danville begins at 6:30 p.m.
The plan is available at the county government web site home page, www.co.hendricks.in.us, under “News and Notices.” Also, copies are available at all six Hendricks County public libraries and at the Planning & Building Department in the Hendricks County Government Center.
Members of the steering committee expect to formally present the draft of long-range recommendations to the plan commission in August – and then the county commissioners – for adoption into the county’s comprehensive plan.
Hendricks County is the third-fastest growing county in the state. Current population exceeds 158,000. Last year, the county planning department began studying ways to manage anticipated growth along the Ind. 39 corridor.
The corridor committee looked at small-town planning at Belleville, the five-mile stretch south from the town, and the I-70 interchange, where Indiana Department of Highways intends improvements to handle increased traffic.
Along the stretch, continued agricultural practices and conservation subdivisions are recommended, along with traffic calming measures.
Belleville planning involves residential and non-residential development, including infill, and the adjacent U.S. 40 corridor in both directions. The plan recognizes a recent announcement establishing U.S. Bike Route 50 along U.S. 40.
