Coats Supports Governor Pence’s Decision to Authorize the Adjutant General to Arm Military Personnel at National Guard Facilities

WASHINGTON, DC – Senator Dan Coats (R-Ind.), a member of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, issued the following statement regarding Indiana Governor Mike Pence’s executive order directing the Adjutant General to enhance security measures at all Indiana National Guard facilities:

“Following the reprehensible attack on our military personnel in Chattanooga, I fully support Governor Pence’s decision to authorize enhanced security measures at all Indiana National Guard facilities. Hoosiers defending our country should have the ability to defend themselves.”

Indiana is home to the sixth largest National Guard force in America. Indiana has more than 11,500 Army National Guard members and more than 1,800 Air National Guard members.
