CEDARVILLE, OHIO – As more than 50 million viewers tune in to the 2026 FIFA World Cup across the tournament’s three host countries, Tayler Sharp of Danville, Indiana, a Cedarville University junior, is helping bring the event to television screens around the world. As an intern with FOX Sports Los Angeles, Sharp is part of the more than 2,000-person production team working behind the scenes to broadcast the world’s largest sporting event.
Behind the Scenes of FIFA World Cup Television Production
For Sharp, a broadcasting, digital media and journalism major, interning at FOX Sports during the FIFA World Cup has given her the opportunity to experience sports production on an international scale. Sharp serves on the Remote Integrations team, where she has seen firsthand how camera feeds are received, graphics are added and broadcasts are delivered to viewers around the world.
At FOX, Sharp has shadowed graphic designers, audio engineers and the vault control room team, which is responsible for receiving, managing and storing incoming live feeds during multi-match tournaments.
“You don’t realize how many people it takes to put on a sports broadcast until you actually experience it for yourself,” said Sharp. “From the people monitoring the camera signals passing underground across the country to the team putting graphics on the screen in real time, it’s been incredible to witness the full production process.”
Cedarville’s Broadcasting Program Opens Doors to Sports Media Careers
Shortly after transferring to Cedarville in fall 2025, Sharp toured FOX Sports Los Angeles. At the time, she never imagined she would return as an intern.
“I never thought I would get this internship,” said Sharp, “but Cedarville has prepared me through a range of experiences as well as a supportive network that has allowed me to be here today.”
Sharp said that Cedarville’s close-knit community allowed her to make connections, seek advice and pursue opportunities to grow in journalism and broadcasting.
“I immediately got involved in sports photography and sports writing,” said Sharp, “and then I heard about the sports production practicum, which allowed me to work as a camera operator and discover how much I enjoyed sports broadcasting.”
Sports Journalism Creates Opportunities to Connect People
At a time when media is often viewed as divisive, Sharp hopes to use sports journalism to unite people through shared interests and passions.
“I’ve found a passion for sports journalism,” said Sharp. “I saw how a game could bring people together, and I realized I wanted to help create those opportunities for people to connect through sports.”
