INDIANAPOLIS – Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Covert Robbery Unit arrest two suspects alleged to have committed several armed robberies of Latino victims.
Using covert investigative techniques, detectives with the Covert Robbery Unit and Safe Street Task Force developed lead information that two suspects, 23-year-old Shaquille Washington and 21-year-old Brain Artis Jr. both of Indianapolis, were allegedly targeting and committing robberies of Latino victims on the northwest side of the city.
On Friday, March 25, 2016, at approximately 9:00 p.m. in the 5100 blk. W. 38th St. detectives along with uniform officers arrested both suspects after they had just allegedly committed an armed robbery of a Latino female. The victim was not injured and the suspects were taken into custody without incident. At the time of the arrest, a gun was also recovered along with the victim’s property to include her money.
Both suspects were preliminarily charged with Robbery; however detectives are expected to seek additional charges against the suspects reference other robberies once more investigative information becomes available. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will review the facts of the case to determine a charging decision.
