State Road 39 closing on or after May 1 for continued work on major road resurfacing project near Lizton

HENDRICKS COUNTY, Ind. – The Indiana Department of Transportation announces a closure on State Road 39 starting on or after Monday, May 1 near Lizton. This is for continued work on a major road resurfacing project. The closure will be from the south end of Tri West High School to U.S. 136. The road will be open to local and emergency traffic only.

The official detour follows U.S. 36 to S.R. 75 to U.S. 136 and back.

This contract was awarded to Milestone Contractors, LP for $9.6 million. The resurfacing project involves phased construction, with an additional closure set for the beginning of June. INDOT will notify the public prior to additional restrictions and/or closures. This project will complete a cold in-place recycle treatment. It also involves bridge work on S.R. 39 over Ross Ditch, approximately 0.34 miles south of U.S. 136.

This resurfacing project involves a cold in-place recycle treatment, which is a type of resurface similar to a full-depth reclamation. It is an environmentally friendly method of removing and reusing the existing asphalt surface. It involves grinding off the top 2 to 5 inches of asphalt surface and mixing the crushed asphalt with an asphalt recycling agent, and placing git back down with a paver. This results in a much stronger, stable base for the new road. It also results in less hauling away of materials.
