Coats Statement on Indiana’s December Employment Numbers

WASHINGTON, DC – Joint Economic Committee Chairman Dan Coats (R-Ind.) issued the following statement regarding Indiana’s December employment numbers, which were reported today by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics:

“Indiana’s pro-growth policies helped our state end the year on a positive note, as more than 10,000 individuals were added to the Hoosier workforce in December. Over the past year, Indiana reduced unemployment by 1.5 percent, demonstrating that Hoosier workers are second to none and our state is attracting employers who are expanding and creating jobs.”

Details about Indiana’s December Employment Numbers

• Indiana’s unemployment rate remained unchanged at 4.4 percent in December.
• The Hoosier labor force grew by 10,600 workers in December.
• Indiana nonfarm payroll jobs grew by 2,100, with 1,800 jobs added in construction.
• Indiana continues to boast one of the largest declines (1.5 percentage points) in its unemployment rate over the past 12 months.
• Indiana has added 57,100 jobs over that same time frame.
