State Senator John Crane in a press release said that Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch and the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA) announced that $10.8 million in federal grant funding was awarded to 19 rural communities to help them improve their quality of life and the health and safety of their residents.
Among the selected communities was the town of Lizton, which was awarded $700,000 to install a new drinking water distribution system.
The communities received the funds through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), which is administered through OCRA, who requests federal funding for Indiana’s rural communities. Overall, the CDBG has five grant programs: Blight Clearance Program, Planning Grants, Public Facilities Program, Main Street Revitalization Program, Stormwater Improvements Program and Wastewater Drinking Water Program.
These funded programs help rural communities improve their infrastructure, public facilities, utilities and environment.
