INDIANAPOLIS – Just before 8:30 a.m. on 12/31/2018, officers with the IMPD were dispatched on reports of a person shot, near the intersection of Hiatt and Miller streets. Responding officers located an unresponsive male victim suffering from apparent gunshot wound(s) inside the cab of a stolen tow truck. EMS personnel responded and transported the victim to the hospital in critical condition. Despite the best efforts of medical personnel, the victim died.
Homicide detectives responded and immediately began canvassing the area for witnesses. The alleged shooter, identified as Steven Roe (32), stayed on-scene and cooperated with investigators. The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency responded to assist in identifying and collecting potential forensic evidence. The Marion County Coroner will be assisting and will determine the exact manner and cause of death. The MCCO will release the name of the victim once proper next-of-kin notification has been made.
Roe was arrested and preliminarily charged with murder. Roe was later transported to the jail for booking. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will review the case and make a charging decision.

A charge of a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
